About Department

The Department of Physics of Government General Degree College at Pedong, Kalimpong was founded in 2015 and is affiliated with the University of North Bengal. Currently, we provide three-year undergraduate programs for Physics Honours under the CBCS curriculum, alongside Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics as General Elective (GE) disciplines (any two). The four-year undergraduate curriculum, as stipulated by the National Education Policy 2020, offers the choice of two minor subjects among Chemistry, Geology, and Mathematics. The curriculum encompasses a range of subjects such as Mathematical Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Thermal Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Wave and Optics, Quantum and Classical Mechanics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and other related topics. These courses offer a well-curated selection of electives that will not only enable you to delve into your areas of interest and uncover your aptitudes, but also enhance your preparedness for a wide array of professional paths. We have a comprehensive and well-equipped laboratory and seminar library, which students frequently utilize to borrow books. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment for students to fully realize their potential. The faculties are actively engaged in research and regularly produce high-quality research papers in prestigious scientific journals, which inspire students to pursue advanced studies. Students are required to come regularly and demonstrate sincerity.
