Embracing the spirit of inclusivity and social justice, the Govt. General Degree College at Pedong stands firm in its commitment to uplift the socially, educationally, and economically disadvantaged sections of society. Following the directives of both the Government of India and the Government of West Bengal, the college has resolved to extend affirmative policies, programs, and facilities to individuals from marginalized backgrounds.

Identifying Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Castes (OBC) and Minority as the most marginalized segments of Indian society, the college is dedicated to fostering an environment of diversity and mutual respect, transcending barriers of caste, color, religion, or culture. Upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution of India, the institution pledges to safeguard the rights and dignity of all individuals, including those from SC/ST/OBC/Minority communities.

In line with this commitment, the SC/ST/OBC/Minority Cell was established in 2016 with the sole objective of empowering students from these communities, enabling their seamless integration into the college mainstream. This specialized cell operates with a proactive approach, offering comprehensive support services to SC/ST/OBC/Minority students enrolled in various academic programs.

To ensure the effective implementation of reservation policies, the college has appointed dedicated Nodal Officers, tasked with overseeing adherence to government regulations and University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines concerning SC/ST/OBC/Minority reservations.

The overarching functions of the SC/ST/OBC/Minority Cell at Govt. General Degree College at Pedong encompass a range of vital tasks:

  • Creating a safe and conducive environment for all students.
  • Providing timely counselling and support for emotional well-being.
  • Addressing grievances and ensuring constitutional protections.
  • Facilitating career growth opportunities through special initiatives.
  • Disseminating information about state and UGC scholarships.
  • Monitoring and pursuing objectives outlined by governmental bodies.

In addition, the cell actively engages in various activities to disseminate information and motivate students from SC, ST, OBC and Minority communities for future planning. Regular meetings and interactions serve as platforms for fostering dialogue and addressing specific concerns within these communities.

Aligned with university guidelines, the college constitutes a dedicated committee to oversee the operations of the SC/ST/OBC/Minority Cell, ensuring the seamless execution of its mandate. Through concerted efforts and unwavering dedication, the college endeavours to create an inclusive and empowering educational ecosystem for all its students.
